What Is Going On?

Children 14 years old and younger and their families are invited to take part each year in the Annual Georgetown Kids Fishing Derby. Prizes are awarded for the first fish, longest fish, and strangest fish caught, as well as the winners of the casting contest.  

Besides the fishing competition there are a variety of information booths and other family activities including Smokey Bear.

Hot dogs and cold drinks are provided by the Georgetown Divide Rotary.  

When?

8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2025.  

Where?

Lake Walton is located approximately 4.5 miles east of Georgetown on Balderston Road, off of Wentworth Springs Road. Look for signs directing participants to the event site. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged whenever possible.  For emergency vehicle access, participants are asked to only park on the east side of Balderston Road. No camping is available on site, but the Dru Barner Campground is a nearby Forest Service campground, located two miles from the event.

Who Is Involved?

Children 12 years old and younger and their families.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. About 100 children participated in last year's event.

The Georgetown Kids Fishing Derby is co-sponsored by the US Forest Service - Georgetown Ranger District, Georgetown Divide Public Utilities District, El Dorado County Fish and Game Commission, Trout Unlimited, Georgetown Divide Rotary,  Growlersburg Conservation Camp, and California  Conservation Corps .
